LEARNING OUTCOME:--

AT THE END OF THIS CHAPTER THE LEARNER SHOULD

1. Concept of shares:--

Public Sector utilities (PSU’s) and Private companies as defined in the Companies Act 1956. Equity shares andpreference shares.

2. Exchanges:--

National Stock Exchange (NSE) & Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)  Depositories associated with each exchange viz., NSDL & CSDL.

3. Participation:--

A bank account linked to an individual’s mobile number Trading account with a broker + Demat account
A smart phone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

4.Debt Instruments:

Government Bonds and Corporate Bonds, Debenture both convertible and non-convertible & partly convertible. Bonus issue and rights issue.

5.Mutual funds:--

Advantages and disadvantages ETF (index buying) route to steady gain SIP & SWP advantages and for whom applicable.

6.Risk & Reward:--

Associated with each type of investment

7 .Types of Investment:--

Long term investment / Wealth building activity for targeted goals of life like son’s education and daughter’s marriage, retirement corpus for people who will not get a lump sum at retirement

8. Speculation: :--

Positional or swing trading short duration or medium term. Day trading activity (high risk and reward) Derivative segment F&O.
